The aftermath of Katrina has affected more that just New Orleans
and the surrounding gulf coast. There are huge financial
implications associated with the catastrophe, from the initial
humanitarian aid to the rebuilding and repairing needed to get
the local area back on its feet. Eight oil refineries shut down
as a result of Katrina could take many months to restart. The
Gulf Coast is a prime supplier of oil, through pipelines now
shut due to lack of power and ocean-going barges unable to load
from ports eradicated by the storm.

Are you upset with the high fuel prices? You are obviously not alone, as it seems many people are quite enraged over the whole thing. Some say that the economy can be sustained with such high oil prices, although that is not entirely so. In fact it greatly affects profits in small businesses. It will also cause harm to families trying to save for college, buy Christmas Presents, pay off credit card bills, or generally live well.

D-e-a-t-h. The mention of that five-letter word instills fear into many. Only a few mortals could dare death like the poet John Donne. When his beloved brother died, he wrote death these damning lines: Death do not be proud/ Though some have called thee mighty and dreadful/ But thou art not so/ Nor yet canst thou kill me/ and Death shall be no more/ Death thou shalt die.

I don't feel inspired to write about anything. Today a plane skipped off the runway in Toronto and everyone survived. I was glad to hear it but not remotely inspired to write about it.

Some say that civil servant workers are just taking up space and wasting taxpayerÂ’s money. Some say that while civil servants may think they are helping they are not. They will say that civil servants are merely debris in the way and they are part of the blob of bureaucracy and destroy the forward progress of mankind.

Earlier this month, I heard President George W. Bush and Mahmoud Abbas, the Prime Minister of the Palestinians speaking of another Peace Treaty with Israel. President Bush spoke about the boarder security of the two countries: Israel and Palestine. Abbas of course, spoke of achieving final peace between the two nations. Upon hearing these two heads of state speak, I remembered what the Bible stated in 1st Thessalonians Chapter 5: Verse 3: "When you hear them say peace and safety then sudden destruction cometh upon them."

[Author's Note: Another essay that I wrote on notebook paper during boring school hours. This wonderful little piece was starting in boring English class on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, and continued into Art class. It was finished in school on Tuesday, December 2, 2002, when I finished it in English class. I worked on it in no other class, and finished it within a few classes. Hooray for high school.]
